About Coffee Farming
Our Approach to Coffee Farming
At MCC Mattioli Coffee Company, coffee farming is the foundation of our business and our commitment to Mozambique’s agricultural future. As one of the country’s leading green coffee producers and merchants, we blend traditional farming expertise with cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to cultivate premium Arabica coffee that meets international quality standards.
Estates and Properties
Our Coffee Estates
MCC Mattioli Coffee Company manages over 5,000 hectares of commercial coffee plantations across Mozambique’s prime coffee-growing regions. These large-scale farms are a cornerstone of MCC’s production capacity and sustainability efforts, representing some of the most advanced and productive coffee estates in the country.
Quality From Seed to Cup
Our agronomy experts monitor every stage of coffee cultivation—from seedling production and planting to harvesting and post-harvest processing.
Smallholder Empowerment
We have worked with hundreds of smallholder farmers, including a strong focus on women farmers, providing them with seedlings, training, and guaranteed purchase agreements.
Coffee Seed Banks
MCC supports the establishment and maintenance of seed banks that preserve and distribute high-quality, disease-resistant coffee seedlings.
Our Practices and Process
Advanced Farming Practices
MCC’s commercial farms utilize modern agricultural techniques and infrastructure to maximize yield and quality while minimizing environmental impact:
Pivot Coffee Irrigation Systems
MCC is pioneering the installation of Mozambique’s first pivot irrigation system for Arabica coffee, enhancing water efficiency and crop resilience in commercial farms.
Agroforestry Integration
Native trees are planted alongside coffee crops to improve soil fertility, provide shade, and sequester carbon, aligning with MCC’s environmental stewardship commitments.
Seedling Nurseries and Seed Banks
MCC operates extensive nurseries and seed banks to supply high-quality, disease-resistant seedlings to both commercial farms and smallholder farmers, ensuring genetic diversity and crop resilience.
On-Site Processing Facilities
Commercial farms are equipped with wet and dry mills, sorting, and grading facilities to maintain quality control from harvest through export.
Sustainability Remark
Supporting Local Communities
Supporting Local Communities: Through employment and smallholder integration programs, MCC’s commercial farms contribute to rural development, food security, and gender equality.
